Nile Delta

Egypt has got two main regions; Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt. One of the other names of the lower Egyptian part is Delta,

It situated in the Northern side of Egypt, and it is where all the fertile land of Egypt is.

In the Delta area we have the two main branches of the Nile which remain from the seven ones, Damietta and Rosetta. The Rosetta branch is the most famous one and it is where we found the famous Rosetta stone deciphered by Champollion the French famous archaeologist.

It is one of the biggest and largest deltas of the rivers, spread from Port Said on the eastern side to Alexandria on the western side.

Delta has a Muslim majority of population, rather than Copts, although most of the places visited by the Holy family exist in Nile Delta.

In ancient periods, the New kingdom period’s capital varies from time to time but the main one during Ramses II reign was in Delta “Hawaris”, one very important goddess center’s was in Tel Basta or Bo Pastet ( The goddess Pastet the Goddess of joy, the cat ).

In modern ages Rosetta played a very important role during the French expedition in the Nile Delta.
