Siwa is the fifth oasis of the western desert of Egypt, the other four are Farafra, Dakhla, Kharga, Baharia. It was visited by Alexander the great when he came to Egypt first. It has some remnant of the Greek and Roman period, some of the Christian period. Very nice examples of tombs date back to the late ancient period are still there, and more to be excavated yet.
Siwa is based on the Bedouin culture, Bedouin costumes for men like long tonic, turban and a vest differs in color according to the importance of the man, for ladies they cover up their faces and bodies, most of the time they are unseen, and hidden, the only transportation mean you can spot there is that cart.
Everything is very distinguished in Siwa and have its own looking features. Even cats, long time back Siwan started getting married and mixed up with Libyans so that you can feel it when you listen to some of their music and their famous dishes too.
Siwa’s most famous adventures and tours is sand dune hiking and different other sand activities, jeep safari for the desert safari adventures, swimming in those Salt lakes which are plenty there, visiting some of the sights date back to different periods such as Islamic period too as the fort of Shali.
